During my school career in the Interior Design Program at Dakota County Technical College I attained and maintained a position on the Presidents’ List with a continued GPA of 4.0. This was achieved through dedication and time management, both of which continue to bolster me in the professional arena.
Beta Theta Tau
For Academic Excellence I was inducted into Beta Theta Tau, the Dakota County Technical County’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. This was a wonderful chance to work with students from other programs on projects around the school and the community.
As a member of Phi Theta Kappa, I was invited to attend the Student Leadership Academy, a three day class with workshops, speakers and projects designed to help students who reach out to become better team leaders and members. We determined our leadership personality using the DISC system and discovered how we can use that knowledge to be a better leader and team member, heard seminars on “Treasure your Laughter, Keep Your Perspective: Humor as a Leadership Skill,” “Communicating Appropriately, Competently and Effectively Across Cultural Differences,” and our final day were led to the kitchens and told we had two hours to cook, eat and clean. It was an interesting practical experience, since we had to work together quickly to achieve our goal. This class was a wonderful experience, and helped me learn a lot about myself and how to better work with others.
